Subject: One of your Blue Orbit "users" From: Fred Johnson Date: Sun, 28 Nov 2004 11:27:42 -0600 To: westin@tdstelme.net Hi Larry, Was cleaning out one of my "junk drawers" and found the notebook I carried when I commanded Papa Company, 75th Rangers out of Camp Red Devil, RVN from Jun 70-Feb 71. While thumbing 'thru it, I found an address for BATCAT Wing Commander. Naturally, a few memories flowed (and when you're over 60, you're glad for ANY memories that make sense). As I recall the reason for my note, I wrote the Wing Commander of the 553rd to thank you guys for saving one of my Ranger teams. They were operating in far west Quang Tri Province and had made contact and could no longer reach me on my radios.....There are lots of details my two fingers can't type as to how I found out about you guys and "Blue Orbit" that are probably no longer classified, but as a retired O-5...why take a chance "they" will want my pension back? Suffice it to say, I'm still beholding to you guys for a 5 man Ranger team who lived to go home. Forgot to tell you...when I asked the CO at Barky if you guys could sync with my team's radios, he smiled and said, "Oh, yeah! They can talk to God!" Turns out that the aircraft on station moved its orbit to make contact and hold it with my guys." I'm alive in Wisconsin in my secod career running an executive education company of 50 employees. God bless.... Fred "Killer 6" Fred Johnson 930 Hidden Cave Road Madison, WI 53717 ofc email (fastest way to reach me): fred@cues.org
